Mobile Learning Collaborative
Storychasers is helping organize and facilitate a collaborative for Oklahoma K-12 schools implementing 1:1 learning projects. Our model (subject to change) currently utilizes netbooks running Ubuntu for student computers, full size laptops (specifically Macbooks) for teacher computers, district use of Google Apps for Education (free) and several other elements.
AVAILABLE RESOURCES:
- Project Wiki (includes recommended digital curriculum and PD topic sequence)
- Archived video from our Dec 15, 2009 meeting is available, along with presentation slides shared as a Google Presentation.
- Post: “Netbooks and full size laptops for Oklahoma 1:1 Schools (15 Dec 2009 event)” for more details.

1:1 learning is death.
In an learning group the learners know more than the instructor and facilitation of learning from different experience or capacity perspectives is the best that the instructor can achieve.
1:1 is a waste of learner potential and specifically the potential to broker expertise between learners.
One other interesting thing that facilitators will observe when they employ a learner brokerage approach is that the learners CREATE content as they learn.
Indeed the most practical sign of success is that NEW content or content created during learning is more valueable than the content delivered to and consumed by learners.

I neglected to mention the storytelling elements that we employ in our group learning approach.
Storytelling is not new and the most sophisticated use of storytelling comes from the Middle East and Africa.
